Do you like music that's weird and bizarre? Would you like to know what funk played by a swarm of bees sounds like? Do you have swaths of unprocessed Catholic guilt? Then you're sure to love what kind of experience listening to Clarence Clarity will offer you.
This is my slice of the internet where I share my love for the artistry of talented musician Clarence Clarity throughout his entire career!
The music of Clarence Clarity is described as being an eclectic, soupy mix of glitch pop, experimental pop, alternative R&B, and electronic music (and for the record, Clarence Clarity is not hyperpop.) Although he would release his debut album No Now in 2015, his first release under the Clarence Clarity name would be with his EP Save †hyself, released in 2013. Likewise, Clarence Clarity was far from his first venture into music, and on this site you'll be able to read about his extensive history in the music world!
I was introduced to his music thanks to my partner and our mutual friend showing me No Now for the first time in 2021. Although I've only been listening to him for a few years and only became a bigger fan the following year, his music has already made such an impact on my life.
From there, I was introduced to his other projects through them, namely Entrepreneurs (A.K.A Clarence Clarity before Clarence Clarity) and Elle Milano, which sunk me deeper into my love for his work because it's all just so good. Well, mainly Entrepreneurs, I haven't listened to Elle Milano enough yet!
I don't think I've ever found music like his that speaks a part of me that I still associate with a lot of pain and anguish, namely when it comes to the suffering that comes with having Catholic guilt, while also giving some of the catchiest earmworms I've heard thus far. To say his music means a lot to me would be an understatement, so it only made sense for me to make a webshrine dedicated to him and my love for his projects. I hope that, through my webshrine, I can get a few more people into his music- or if they're already into his work, to see just how amazing of an artist he is and introduce them to some of his other work!
Here's a list of a few of my favourite songs by Clarence Clarity and a description on why I love them!
Bipolar Rainbows: Everything about this song is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The instrumentation is beautiful, the lyricism is beautiful, Clarence's voice is beautiful- there's nothing about this song that's ugly. I especially love the visuals that the lyrics encourage people to imagine, such as "My soul's stuck see-saw feathers, tar-dipped, tripped out of heaven," which so gracefully puts into words the experience of having your soul be judged by the stigma and demonization of the mental illnesses that you struggle with. Meadow Hopping, Traffic Stopping, Death Splash: Ohhh this song, this is the one that really got me obsessed with his music. It's such a genius way of portraying what people are like when they fall into conspiracy theory rabbit holes, especially with the lyric "You got my vengeance coming," showing that the ultimate driving point behind why people get into these circles is to fulfill their revenge theories. Also the connection with conspiracy theorist circles and Catholicism holds very true, especially when theorists of things like the Flat Earth Theory wholeheartedly use the Bible as their source of information. Porn Mountain: Funny name aside, this is another song that is written so wonderfully with equally powerful instrumentals. In my eyes, this song conveys the experience of hypersexuality very well, and the overwhelming guilt and shame that comes with every round of indulgence. The Gospel Truth: Write something here
And for good measure, here's some quickfire honourable mentions:
SU฿LORD: The lyrics "The lord made you a liar, He won’t make you a man" are so fucking raw it's insane.
Anthropic Principles: It's the violins, it's always the violins.
It Is Happening Again: Really, I could put this whole (short) album's tracklist on my favourite songs list, but I need to be fair and gie every other album the same treatment.
The Crux: I promise you that this song will make the lyrics "You can't crux me, you can't crux me, you'll crux when I find you" be stuck in your head for days.
Once In The Styx: I also love the other hidden track on the Japanese edition of No Now, Spinner, but I think this one might be my favourite of the two!
Rafters: I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I jump off the rafters I ju--

LEAVE EARTH: Despite the fact that this song has the word 'meme' in the lyrics, it still manages to make me feel emotions not known to man.
